"Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan...
But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving.
Reading. Rereading.

Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.
Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words... And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
For Cath, the question is: Can she do this?
Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? Writing her own stories?
And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?"

Fangirl was a book that I had wanted to read for ages. I was always seeing good reviews on it and heard people talking about it. I did feel like it wasn't as good as i had expected it to be, as people had hyped it up so much i expected to be able to give it a 5 star, but it was enjoyable and it was a really good book. I liked the main storyline, but i really didn't enjoy the fanfiction in it.

The book was split into two parts, The fanfiction/the book that the fanfiction was based on, and a story about the girl who wrote it, Cath. The book was about twin sisters, Cath and Wren, 18 years old who were going to college for the first time. Cath and Wren have completely different personalities in the book, Cath has social anxiety and is very quiet and shy, and Wren is more out-going and loud. Cath wanted to share a room with Wren however Wren wanted to branch out and meet new people, so they both got new roommates. Wren had met her roommate a few times before, and did really get along well with her, however at first Cath didn't seem to like her roommate Reagan very much.

As the book progresses, Cath starts making a couple of friends, such as Nick, who she shares an english class with and then leads on to them meeting up outside of the class to write together. Cath seemed very comfortable around Nick and it seemed like she cared for him a lot, however I got the impression that it was only one way. Nick and Caths writing styles are very different. Cath bases most of her stories (pretty much all of them) on "Simon Snow". Simon Snow is the equivalent of our Harry Potter, and Cath is obsessed with it. Cath writes a fanfiction of Simon Snow Called "Carry On, Simon" which has a mega amount of followers. Cath is so obsessed with writing this, that she passed up huge opportunities in the book, which did annoy me a bit.

Cath also got very close with Levi. Levi first came into the book as 'the boy that was always in reagans room', Which is why Cath believed for a long time that him and Reagan were dating. Levi was definitely my favourite character in the book! However he did do something that completely broke my trust and respect for him for a short time in the book.

I really liked Reagans character as i thought she brought a bit more excitement into the book. She was different to all of the other characters. She had more of an attitude and some more humour. I think the nice side of Reagans personality shows a lot more nearer the end of the book.

I also liked Wren, however as you get further through the book,  Wrens behaviour gets badder and badder with drinking and drugs etc, which was really sad to read.

Overall i have given the book 4 stars, as i did really enjoy the main plot of the book, just not the fanfiction so much. Im not sure yet if i am going to read the second book, "Carry on" as it is fanfiction although i do reccomend that you read this!
